Determine whether there are any classes that you need to take that aren't offered during the school year. Prioritize these.
Step2
Find out who's teaching the classes. Sometimes there are great teachers who teach a certain class only during the summer, so you'll want to take these opportunities if they arise.
Step3
See whether your school publishes student reviews of classes. These reviews can steer you toward better courses and away from worse ones.
Step4
Talk to students who have taken the classes you're considering, and find out what they thought about the instructor, the material, the workload, and so on.
Step5
Contact the teachers themselves if you have any specific questions you'd like answered. This will also give you a feel for how well the teacher communicates.
Step6
Shop around for classes, if your school allows it. This will keep you extra busy your first week but is well worth it in the long run.

Pick the classes that you don't want to take during the school year. I took a semester of gym for two summers. Now I have my credit, it's freed up more time for other classes in my schedule, and I don't have to worry about forgetting my gym clothes.

It's much better if you just suck it up and take the morning classes so that way you still have the afternoon to lay out, swim, hang out with friends, have your night off, or work (like I did). It can be rough getting up early, but you'll be glad you're getting it over with in the morning!

Consider taking your classes in the morning, even if you hate getting up early. That's what I did. I had class in the morning, finished my homework in the afternoon, and went out with my friends almost every night. I had a great summer.
