Known as Hawaii's most secluded island, Lanai (also called the Pineapple Island) lives up to its name. If you truly want to get away from it all, Lanai is a good choice for your wedding. It's a nature-lover's dream and golfer's paradise, but if you're into swinging nightlife and endless tourist attractions, Lanai may not be the island for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • marriage license

Step1
See Related eHow, "How to Get Married in Hawaii", for general information on requirements for getting married in the state of Hawaii.
Step2
Log onto the web site of the Lanai Visitors Bureau (www.visitlanai.net/) for information on how to obtain a list of Lanai's wedding service providers and wedding venues.
Step3
Hire a wedding planner if you can afford it. Both Four Seasons resorts on the island offer many options for weddings, and will help you plan for the big day.
Step4
Make all reservations well ahead of time.
Step5
Get a marriage license. On Lanai, call (808) 565-6411 for information on where to get a license.
Step6
Enjoy your wedding on this beautiful, secluded island.

Tips & Warnings

  • The two resorts on Lanai are the Lodge at Koele and the Manele Bay Hotel, both Four Seasons properties. Facilities for weddings and receptions are sumptuous at each resort. There are few other lodging options on Lanai, including some rustic B&Bs in Lanai City.
  • While on the island, don't miss the Garden of the Gods, northwest of Lanai City, and the Orchid House and Gardens, which is located at the Lodge at Koele in Lanai City.
  • There are two world-class golf courses in Lanai: The Experience at Koele and The Challenge at Manele.
  • The airport at Lanai City is small and only serves commuter and air taxi aircraft. Plan your flights well ahead of the big day. It might be easier to fly into Maui where you can catch a ferry in Lahaina to Lanai.
  • Most of the island is accessible only via rutted, dirt roads. You will need to rent a 4WD vehicle if you want to visit Lanai's remote beaches, coves and historical sites.
