If humidity makes your hair go "poof" or your straight hair suddenly springs into curls, here are some tips for maintaining your hairstyle.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • humidity-resistant hair care products
  1. Step 1

Work with it. If your hair normally has curl or wave to it, it will become more curly when the humidity is high. Consider going with a layered style that accentuates curls.

  2. Step 2

Wear your hair longer during humid months. The extra weight of the hair will keep it from puffing out as much.

  3. Step 3

Use humidity-resistant or anti-frizz hair care products in everything from shampoo to hair spray.

  4. Step 4

Wear your hair in a ponytail or bun.

  5. Step 5

If you can't seem to tame the curl or frizz, consider getting your hair professionally straightened.

Tips & Warnings
  • To tame the frizz during the day, put a little hand lotion on your hands and run them through your hair, especially the dry ends. Caution: Too much will give hair a greasy look and feel.
  • Puffy hair caused by humidity is actually quite healthy. The extra moisture hydrates your hair giving it those extra curls and bounce.

on 9/15/2006 Stay inside with an air conditioner most of the time. Wear a scarf going out. Use less styling products. Remember humidity comes from cooking moisture, hot bath humidity is trap where you are. Wash your hair with warm water and rinse with cold water to keep it shining. Don't touch your hair when blow dry it, and use low setting when blow drying.

on 6/30/2006 If you deep condition, your hair will already be hydrated, so it won't puff out as much to get moisture.

on 6/30/2006 It is really not a bad idea to set your hair with a little pomade, or hair grease, and then follow up with a gel. Find a pomade with all natural ingredients, or use coconut oil, and use a gel with no alcohol. That really works well on my big hair, it worked really well when I lived in South Florida.
