Whether your project is "green" or you want to save a few bucks, recycled paints are a great option and offer an increasingly wide array of colors and textures.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep in mind that recycled paint is created one of two ways: reblending or reprocessing. Reblended paint is remixed and screened and is typically available in a limited number of neutral colors. Reprocessed paint is mixed with new material and is available in a wider range of colors.

  2. Step 2

Opt for reprocessed paint for exteriors. Reblended paint is not as high quality as reprocessed paint and should be used only for interior surfaces.

  3. Step 3

Locate a recycled paint dealer in your area by searching online or calling area paint dealers.

  4. Step 4

Take a sample of the color you want to the paint store for matching.

  5. Step 5

Ask a representative at the paint store to help you select the appropriate color and brand of recycled paint for your project.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many retailers, including national chains such as Home Depot, and well-known manufacturers, such as Behr and Dunn-Edwards, now offer recycled paints.
