Your employer's 403(b) retirement account may not always offer the choices you want. Here are some ideas on how to change or add to your choices.

Things You'll Need:

  • Signed petition
  1. Step 1

    Decide on the investment choices (for example, fund families such as Fidelity, Vanguard, Janus and so on) you'd like added to your 403(b) account.

  2. Step 2

    Contact the fund families you'd like to add, and enlist their help in identifying how they can be added - they'll be eager to furnish you with any information you need.

  3. Step 3

    Speak with your employer's 403(b) plan administrator and inquire about adding new choices to the 403(b) plan.

  4. Step 4

    Collect signatures from your colleagues to support the requested changes/additions.

  5. Step 5

    Submit the signed petition to your plan administrator.

Tips & Warnings
  • If your 403(b) choices are currently limited to TSAs (tax-sheltered annuities), take the initiative to expand the number of options available.
  • You may save thousands of dollars in unnecessary compounding fees by investing directly with a mutual fund family.
