How to Extend the Life of a Pair of Nylons
A run or snag usually spells the end for a pair of nylons. A few simple tricks can help you extend their life, and your clothing budget! Does this Spark an idea?

1
Buy smart. Nylons that have reinforced toes, a reinforced crotch and a little spandex or elastic will last longer than their sheer, flimsy counterparts. They may cost more, but with proper handling they'll last a long time.
-
2
Check your fingernails and toenails before putting nylons on. File jagged corners and trim hangnails before handling stockings. Smooth your callouses and any rough spots on toes and heels.
-
-
3
Insert thumb into the opening of one leg. Gather nylons all the way to the toe before inserting foot. Gently pull nylons evenly from both sides moving up the leg; stretching or snagging mainly occurs when you pull nylons too hard from the center.
-
4
Steer clear of the corner of your desk, park benches or any rough surface that may catch on your legs.
-
5
Carry a small bottle of clear nail polish. Dab a small amount on a hole or run the minute you notice it.
-
6
Hand-wash nylons instead of throwing them in the washing machine. Rinse well, then roll in a towel to absorb water. Hang them over a clean towel to dry.
-
7
Store nylons in ziplock bags. This will keep them safe from bra hooks, lace edges and other hazards as they get tossed around in lingerie drawers.

If you have worn spots on the heels or toes of the pantyhose or even runs , By all means cut that area, Some runs occur below the knee area and some occur in the toe area . Those with the toe area just cut above that area , This way you can get 2 or more wearings out those old hose , say for example your wearing boots that go knee high , well wear socks when you wear the boots and if the skirt or dress is short you can still show a little leg while keeping warm plus your toes arnt as cramped in the boots and the socks hide the end you cut off . Just like wearing leggings . For those of you that go with your husbands hunting in the cold weather , Use old hose as the first layer and long johns as a second , this keeps you toasty warm and aids in putting on the long johns . I actually give my husband my old stockings as he wears them as another layer of clothing. -

Another way to extend the life of nylons is to get them wet, put them in a plastic bag and then freeze them. After they are frozen, let them thaw completely before wearing.
