If you're on a tight budget and know you'll need of a new pair of shoes for work or a special occasion, plan ahead. Buy when prices are at their lowest, not necessarily when you need new shoes the most.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Athletic Shoes
  • Men's Dress Shoes
  • Men's Running Shoes
  • Men's Sandals
  • Women's Closed-toed Shoes
  • Women's Dress Shoes
  • Women's Sandals
  1. Step 1

Shop out of season. Look for great deals on sandals in the winter and boots in the summer.

  2. Step 2

Head to thrift stores for deals on secondhand casual shoes. Consider vintage and consignment shops for secondhand dress shoes.

  3. Step 3

Learn about your favorite shoe store or department store's sale cycle. At least twice a year you're apt to find racks and racks of pumps, flats, tennis shoes and active shoes priced to move.

  4. Step 4

Visit off-price retailers often. They regularly replenish their stock of mainly casual shoes.

  5. Step 5

Spend a day at the outlet mall in your area. Look to brand name depots for radically reduced prices on last season and last year's hot overruns.

Tips & Warnings
  • Examine secondhand shoes very carefully for scuff marks, worn heels and a secure attachment of the upper to the sole.
  • Check newspapers and flyers for store coupons offering additional discounts during sale periods.
  • Pull the items that sit in your own closet and consider selling them to a vintage or secondhand store. You may receive better compensation in store credit than in cash back.
  • Discounted, off-price and sale items are often nonrefundable. Confirm the terms of sale before you purchase.

on 5/11/2009 Don't forget to check online stores for bargain shoes. Many designers have their own sites and offer clearance items. Plus there's eBay, overstock and Amazon for great deals.-Gailhttp://discounteddesignershoes.com
