There are several different ways to get your hands on a Freebord - a relatively new invention in the skateboard world that infuses downhill skating with the feel of snowboarding. Try them in the following recommended order.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Freebords
  • Knee And Elbow Pads
  • Skateboard Helmets
  • Skateboard Pads
  • Wrist Guards

Step1
Go to your local specialty snowboard, skateboard or surf shop and ask about Freebords. This is the best way to buy the board because you can hold it, stand on it and get an idea of exactly what you want.
Step2
Check out the Freebord Web site (freebord.com). You can order directly from the company or find out where the closest dealer is.
Step3
Buy the Alpha 112cm board if you weigh more than 135 lbs.
Step4
Buy the Alpha 110cm board if you weigh less than 135 lbs.
Step5
Make sure you already have all your pads. Try not to let your Freebord arrive until you have them - you'll have a hard time resisting the urge to try it out, and you may end up injured.

Tips & Warnings

  • In general, the 112cm board is stabler and the 110cm board is more maneuverable. However, some big riders prefer the smaller board and some smaller riders prefer the bigger board. If you have a chance, try them both.
  • Freebords don't function like regular skateboards and can be very dangerous. Make sure you have some proper instruction (see Related eHows) and proper pads before you start out. Begin slowly and learn your limits.
