Slow Down on a Freebord Slow Down on a Freebord

Just as pointing your board's nose downhill will make you go faster, pointing it sideways will keep your speed under control. Use your edges, and slide to control your speed.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Skateboard Helmets
  • Skateboard Pads

Step1
Ride side to side on the hill. The more extreme your angle across the hill, the slower you'll go.
Step2
Try not to get up too much speed. The more speed you get, the harder it will be to slow down.
Step3
When you run out of room going in one direction, carve across the fall line and point your nose back in the opposite direction across the hill.
Step4
Keep your weight firmly on the uphill side of the board.
Step5
Lean harder into your slides. Slides help you control your speed - the more weight you put on your uphill edge, the more the slide will slow you down.
Step6
Grab the downhill side of the board and lean back against the board to power stop. Raising your center wheel off the ground, you'll cause the board to slide to a halt.

Tips & Warnings

  • Jump off your board and run with your momentum if you find yourself going faster than you can handle.
  • A Freebord doesn't handle like a normal skateboard - it will slide sideways and come to an abrupt stop if you catch an edge. Practice extreme caution until you're familiar with the way the board handles.
  • Always wear full skateboard pads and a helmet when riding your Freebord.
