Turn on a Freebord

Turning on a Freebord is a lot more like turning on a snowboard than it is like turning on a skateboard. Instead of using a kick tail, it's necessary to carve and slide into your turns.

Instructions

    • 1

Ride at an angle down a hill (see "How to Choose a Hill to Ride on a Freebord," under Related eHows).

    • 2

Remember that when riding your Freebord, your weight must be on one side or the other of your board, not over the center.

    • 3

Keep your weight on your uphill edge.

    • 4

Start carving into a turn by leaning downhill.

    • 5

Switch your weight briefly to your downhill edge as you begin your turn. As you continue with the turn, this edge will become your uphill edge.

    • 6

Keep your weight over the front of your board.

    • 7

Push gently with your back foot to help your tail slide around as you carve into the turn. Be careful not to push too much, or you'll go into a slide.

    • 8

Ride in the opposite direction, still downhill, keeping your weight on the new uphill edge of your board.

    • 9

Practice on a gentle hill by carving quickly from one edge to the other.

    • 10

Wear full skateboarding pads and a helmet when riding your Freebord.

Tips & Warnings

  • The most important aspect of riding a Freebord is to always be on one edge or the other of the board, not in the center. Your uphill edge is usually the best edge to be on.

  • Once you can turn, you've already begun to learn how to slide. Just start pushing a little extra with your back foot and feeling your way into killer slides (see Related eHows).

  • A Freebord is unlike normal skateboards; it will slide sideways and stop suddenly if it catches an edge. Begin slowly until you're familiar with the way the board works.

Try and look at where you what to turn. It also helps to point with your arms and hands(yeah it looks goofy, but it really helps).

When you want to turn on a freebord, use the backside of the board to turn. Bring the back frontward. If you try to use your front more than your back, you will catch a edge.
