Sure, you want to make a difference in the world, but you've got a job, friends and maybe someone special in your life - and you don't have time to go out picketing or go to lobby your congressman. Here's how to get involved in gay and lesbian activism online.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Access
  1. Step 1

Start at the Web site of the gay group that knows more about interactive media than any other, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD.org). Join the GLAADAlert list to keep up with media issues involving gays and lesbians.

  2. Step 2

Be sure to visit the Action Center at the Web site of the nation's largest gay and lesbian organization, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC.org).

  3. Step 3

Go next to the site of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (TheTaskForce.org). You can keep up with the most pressing gay and lesbian issues there.

  4. Step 4

Consider joining some e-mail lists related to gay and lesbian activism. There may be a local one just for your community or a national one dealing with a specific issue that interests you. Find a list of some of the best of them in the links section of the Human Rights Campaign site (HRC.org).

  5. Step 5

Remember that gay-specific organizations aren't the only ones fighting for gay and lesbian causes. Visit People for the American Way's site (PFAW.org).

Tips & Warnings
  • The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU.org) is a strong supporter of gay and lesbian rights and can always use your help.
