Mash parsnips just as you would potatoes. Peel and cut them into chunks, then steam and purée.

Bake, steam or poach pears. Baby may even be able to eat an extra-ripe pear that is simply peeled and mashed.

Serve babies cooked, puréed figs. These can be seedy, so wait until your baby is 9 to 10 months old.

Tips & Warnings
Use organic produce whenever you can. Babies are growing and developing, and pesticides could be especially harmful to them.
You can make baby food with a food processor, a blender, a hand blender (also called an immersion blender) or a grinder designed specifically for baby food.
Many soft fruits and vegetables can simply be mashed with a fork.
If purées are very thick, thin them with breast milk, formula or cooking liquid.
Make extra baby food and freeze it in ice cube trays.
Keep a record of when you introduce new foods to your baby. That way, if your baby has an adverse reaction, it will be easier to identify possible causes.
It isn't necessary to purée and strain all baby foods. It's okay if they're a little lumpy, but be sure the lumps are not hard or big enough to be choking hazards.
