  1. Step 1

Purchase a plain scrapbook and be sure it has acid-free pages.

  2. Step 2

Design a cover for the scrapbook. Include the person's name and possibly a drawing or photo of a birthday cake to indicate the theme.

  3. Step 3

Designate a two-page spread for each birthday.

  4. Step 4

Decide what elements you want to include each year. You could have a photo of the birthday child, a photo of the cake, a list of presents received, a list of who came to the party, a description of the party's theme and any other special things that were part of the day.

  5. Step 5

Decorate the pages to match the theme of that year's party. If the party had a Winnie-the-Pooh theme, you could attach Winnie-the-Pooh clip art, drawings or stickers to the pages. Alternatively, you could add art to reflect the gifts or the age of the child. If the child turned 8, attach different number eights. If the child received a bicycle, attach bicycle clip art.

  6. Step 6

Consider saving a spot on each page for a description of the child at that age. Include the child's height and weight, names of friends, favorite hobby, favorite book, favorite toy and so on.

  7. Step 7

Reserve a space where the child can write his or her own name, so you can see the handwriting develop over the years.

  8. Step 8

Treasure this special memento and add to it each birthday.

on 11/22/2005 Save the inedible cake decorations. Put them in a zip-lock bag to keep them longer.
