This project is great for preschoolers and young, elementary-age children. Plus it provides Dad with a gift he can use for a long time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sequins
  • Father's Day Greeting Cards
  • Elmer's Glue-All
  • Fabrics
  • Felt
  • Children's Scissors
  • Tagboards
  • Rulers
  • Sequins
  1. Step 1

Draw a tie on a piece of paper. Make it about 5 or 6 inches long and 2 or 3 inches wide.

  2. Step 2

Use a ruler to make the sides and bottom "V" of the tie. Design the top with slightly flared-out sides.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the tie you have made.

  4. Step 4

Have the child trace the tie onto a piece of tagboard.

  5. Step 5

Assist the child in cutting out the tie.

  6. Step 6

Help the child trace the tie onto the felt and cut it out. Do this twice so you have two pieces of felt.

  7. Step 7

Dot the back of the felt with school glue and have the child press it onto the tagboard, carefully lining up the edges.

  8. Step 8

Allow the glue to dry, then add some decorations to one side of the felt. Glue on some stars made of different-colored felt, sequins or other decorative items that are flat.

  9. Step 9

Wrap the bookmark when it has dried. Consider giving Dad a book, as well, so he can use the bookmark right away.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have any felt, you can glue fabric to the tagboard. To make a simpler bookmark, let the child decorate just the tagboard.

on 11/22/2005 Give Dad that great new book about the Crusades, "Deus lo Volt," or the techno-thriller, "Demolition Angel," to go with his bookmark.
