How to Find Resources for Older Lesbians Online

Until recently, the special needs and issues of mature lesbians were ignored on the Internet, but now there are plenty of resources for you. Have a look at some of the resources we've found.

1. Start out at Classic Dykes Online (ClassicDykes.com). This resource, which bills itself as a cybernetwork for "lezbians" in midlife and beyond, offers message boards, expert advice and more.
2. Get to know an organization that is reclaiming the word "old" from those who want to make it an offensive term. That's what Old Lesbians Organizing for Change (OLOC.org) is doing.
3. Stop next at the American Society on Aging's Lesbian and Gay Aging Issues Network (asaging.org/lgain.html). The organization provides text from its newsletter along with links and more.
4. Take a minute to look at the site of the Pride Senior Network (PrideSenior.org). This New York City-based organization offers a services directory and other resources that can benefit older lesbians anywhere.
5. Find other resources in Gayscape's Mature Gays and Lesbians section (gayscape.com). It provides links to lots of organizations and personal home pages.

• Remember to check out PlanetOut (www.planetout.com) anytime you're looking for gay or lesbian stuff. In this case, click on the People tab, then select Seniors.
• Retirement communities for gays and lesbians are beginning to spring up around the country. You'll find links to these new communities on the Web sites mentioned above. Many lesbians have been forced back into the closet by mainstream retirement communities and nursing homes, but these gay and lesbian facilities can assure that your orientation is respected if you become incapacitated in your final years.
