How to Buy Gifts for a Couple

Consider them both, of course, but here are some ideas you might not have thought of.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gas Grills
  • Photo Frames
  • Unique Gifts
  • Women's Watches
  • Monthly Gift Packages
  • Gift Certificates
  • Massage Gift Certificates
  • 2 Cellular Phones
  1. Step 1

Think of the couple as a third person. She's academic, precise, sports-minded. He's domestic, sophisticated, outlandish, but together they made a great house, built a helicopter, want a big family.

  2. Step 2

Give them time together. With two incomes, family and a big lawn to mow, they might like a night at a B&B, a double massage, or a promise to watch the cat and weed the garden so they can hike, bike and see that Monet exhibit.

  3. Step 3

Get something they'd both enjoy, naturally. Even if he does the cooking, she gets to eat - so that big gas grill is a great duo gift.

  4. Step 4

Make a scrapbook of their courtship, with memories, photos, and interviews of other pals, family members, roommates and bosses.

  5. Step 5

Give them cellular phones so they can call each other; matching watches so they can always meet on time; or sleeping bags so they can commune with nature.

  6. Step 6

Maybe you can trade a professional service. If you're a lawyer you can make them a living trust, or as a dentist you can whiten their teeth. Being a photographer, poet, artist, landscape architect, plumber or florist can all lead to great service gifts.

  7. Step 7

Remember that you can always make something great: a fresh loaf of bread, candles, a drawing, a certificate for a car wash or baby-sitting. Money shouldn't be an obstacle.

Tips & Warnings
  • A Persian rug, silver frame, original art, mature tree and first edition Dickens are all treasures they'll share and enjoy together.
  • A CD-of-the-month club will expose them to different musical tastes.
  • They probably do some things together (they met somehow!), so consider that ski rack, kayak, backpack or scuba tank, or maybe even Italian lessons.

on 4/28/2009 Engrave anything---it is so personal and looks special and personal. Try Red Envelope Catalogue but if you have a local engraver that's even better. I love a store in Agoura California called the Engraved Letter, you get to choose your own font. Also, it is beautiful on crystal or silver I have ordered apothecary jars, bowls, silver
