When working with four cords, switching hands is the key to keeping macramé cords in the correct position and your work straight. And you can switch your hands faster than you can cross them.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hemp
  • Knotting Board
  • Cording
  • Measuring Tapes
  • Wooden Thin Wood Dowels
  • Pushpins
  • Rubber Bands
  • Yardsticks
  • Rubber Bands
  • Twine
  • Twine
  • C-clamps
  • T-pins
  • Rubber bands
  1. Step 1
     

    Place four pieces of twine side by side and pin them to your working surface.

  2. Step 2

    Place the twine perpendicular to you lengthwise.

  3. Step 3

    Use your left hand to make a loop with the cord on the far left by placing it over the two center cords and under the right cord.

  4. Step 4
     

    Use your right hand and take the cord on the far right under the two filler cords and up through the loop on the left.

  5. Step 5

    Switch hands so that your left hand pulls the right cord through the loop.

  6. Step 6

    Pull on the left and the right cords to tighten. You now have half of the knot.

  7. Step 7
     

    Use your right hand to form a loop with the cord on the far right by taking it over the two filler cords and under the cord on the left.

  8. Step 8

    Use your left hand and take the cord on the left under the two center cords and up through the loop on the right.

  9. Step 9
     

    Pull on the left and the right cords to tighten the knot.
