Everyone can use a needle and thread or an extra button some time in life. Keep this handy kit in your car, truck, desk or purse for all your sewing emergencies.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Buttons
  • Coin Handbags
  • All-purpose Threads
  • Glues
  • Needle Threaders
  • Needles
  • Safety Pins
Step1
Find a small box, such as a matchbox. You can also use a small coin purse.
Step2
Decorate the box by covering it with a small piece of wallpaper or sponge-painting it.
Step3
Glue a small magnet strip onto a small piece of cardboard. The cardboard should fit inside the box, but be easy to remove.
Step4
Lay a sewing needle on top of the magnet.
Step5
Wrap basic colors of thread around the piece of cardboard. Good colors to have on hand are white, cream, black, navy, red and gray.
Step6
Make sure you wrap the thread around the sharp point of the needle so that it doesn't show.
Step7
Add small buttons to the box in neutral colors such as clear and black.
Step8
Include a couple of safety pins for those moments of desperation, and a needle threader to make life a little easier.

Tips & Warnings

  • If using a larger container for your sewing kit, such as a coin purse, include a small pair of embroidery scissors.

on 1/6/2006 In many sewing sections and fabric stores you can find Rainbow Thread braid, which combines several colors in a handy 27-inch length. You just find the color you need and pull out one thread - tie braid will kink up on you, but it'll straighten out without much effort.
