How to Play Musical Water Floats

Try this variation of musical chairs in the pool on a hot day.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Swimsuits
  • Batteries
  • Batteries
  • Portable Tape Players
  • Batteries
  • Pool Toys
  • Sunscreen
  • Music Tape Cassettes
  • Beach Towels
  • Swimsuits
  1. Step 1

    Play this game only with children who know how to swim or who are assisted by an adult.

  2. Step 2

    Place one inner tube or other flotation toy in the pool for each child that is playing.

  3. Step 3

    Station an adult next to a radio or tape deck that is far from the pool and cannot possibly fall in. This adult will be in charge of turning the music on and off.

  4. Step 4

    Turn on the music and have the children swim around. Stop the music suddenly and have each child hurry to get to a water toy.

  5. Step 5

    Take away one floater in each round. Children who are left without a flotation device when the music stops are out.

  6. Step 6

    Continue the game until there is only one floater left and there are two children vying for it. Whoever gets it when the music stops wins.

Tips & Warnings
  • Children are not allowed to touch the flotation devices with any part of their bodies while the music plays.
  • Vary the length of the segments of music that are played.
  • Always supervise children when they are in the pool.
