How to Hold Wading Pool Sailboat Races

Help your children try different techniques to race their sailboats in the wading pool.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wading Pools
  • Swimsuits For Children
  • Garden Hoses And Attachments
  • Sunscreen
  • Beach Towels
  • Toy Boats
  1. Step 1

    Assemble a collection of small toy sailboats, or make your own out of folded paper.

  2. Step 2

    Fill the 'kiddie' pool with water or go to a public wading pool.

  3. Step 3

    Line the boats up on one side and try to get them to the other side of the pool. The first boat to get across wins.

  4. Step 4

    Try blowing on the boats to make them go.

  5. Step 5

    See what happens when you splash water behind them to make them go.

  6. Step 6

    Catch the wind and let nature move the boats.

  7. Step 7

    Use different boats and different paper designs to see which goes the fastest.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment by adding some cargo to the boats such as some small pebbles.
