How to Make a Prize Iceberg

This activity keeps kids busy and cool - conditions that are hard to come by in the summer.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Picnic Tables
• Prizes
• Food Coloring
• Butter Knives
• Long Wooden Spoons
• Plastic Containers
• Plastic Spoons
• Serving Spoons

1. Fill a large container with water.

2. Cover it and place in the freezer.

3. Check it every couple of hours.

4. Add an assortment of plastic or other waterproof prizes and toys when the water becomes slushy.

5. Mix the items into the slush so they are distributed evenly.

6. Wait for the water to freeze completely.

7. Take the container outside and dump the iceberg onto a table.

8. Give children plastic or metal spoons and dull knives.

9. Let them chip away at the ice to get to the prizes.

Tips & Warnings

• Be sure you do not give the children any sharp knives or other implements that they could injure themselves with.
• Placing the iceberg in the sun will make it melt faster and make it easier to get to the prizes.
• Try adding food coloring to make the iceberg more colorful.
