Step 1
Make sure your players always touch the ball with the laces of their shoes, with the foot slightly feathered in, when they move forward with the ball.
-
Step 2
Have players dribble the ball on the move with a normal running style, not with their feet pointed outward.
-
Step 3
Have players use the inside of the foot to move the ball when they turn to the inside.
-
Step 4
Have the players use the outside of the foot when they turn to the outside.
-
Step 5
Introduce moving with the ball (dribbling) by asking players questions such as "Which part of the foot do you move?" and "Which part of the foot do you use to turn?" Ask them to explain how to move with the ball.
-
Step 6
Let them answer the questions and then try out their ideas on the field.
-
Step 7
Bring them back in and ask your questions again.
-
Step 8
Use players to demonstrate the proper technique, and then let everyone try it again.
-
Step 9
Use your concluding game (scrimmage) to focus on what is taught in the practice session.
-
Step 10
Assign moving with the ball in the "doggy bag" (homework given to players after a practice session).
