Cobblestones are large pebbles made of flint that can make a garden or yard look absolutely charming. Here's how to lay them.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cobblestones
  • Dry Concrete Mix
  • Gravel
  • Gravel
  • Garden Hoses
  • Garden Trowels
  • Lawn Rollers
  • Sand
  • 2-by-4 Boards
  1. Step 1

Set down a layer of gravel and cover it with 2 inches of dry concrete mix. Level the area.

  2. Step 2

Press each stone into the dry concrete. For best results, put the stones very close together.

  3. Step 3

Use a 2-by-4 board to tamp the stones down so they're level.

  4. Step 4

Spray the area lightly with a hose ' don't soak it. The water will cause the concrete to harden and hold the cobblestones in place.

  5. Step 5

Alternatively, set the cobblestones in sand or soil. Flatten the soil or a 3-inch layer of sand with a garden roller. Use a hand trowel to dig an indentation for each stone; set the stones in the holes and tamp them down with a 2-by-4 board.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use the sand or soil method in gardens, where plants can grow between the stones.
  • Be sure that the stones are level to prevent someone from tripping on them.
