Maintain your garage door and you'll ensure that it provides years of loyal service.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Check all of the hardware. Normal use can sometimes work nuts or bolts loose.

  2. Step 2

Put a light coat of oil on the drive chain, track, pulleys and springs. Do this a few times a year to protect these parts from rust.

  3. Step 3

Clean the hinge rollers. Loosen the nuts and pull them out. Wipe them with engine degreaser, then replace them. Remember to tighten the bolts.

  4. Step 4

Make sure the track brackets are secure. These are the parts that hold the garage door track to the wall.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use regular motor oil or Teflon lubricant instead of grease, which attracts grit that can make noise and wear even worse.
  • Working on the extension springs can be dangerous. Call a service professional to perform this part of your maintenance regimen.
