How to Create a Graph in Illustrator

You can create nine different types of graphs using Adobe Illustrator's Graph tool. These instructions apply to Adobe Illustrator 8. Procedures for other versions might vary.

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Illustrator
  1. Step 1

    Open or create a new file from the File menu.

  2. Step 2

    Choose Show Tools from the Windows menu.

  3. Step 3

    Double-click on the Graph tool to obtain a popup window with graph options.

  4. Step 4

    Select the options for the graph that you want. You can create bars, stacked bars, columns, stacked columns, pies, radars, scatters, lines or area graphs. Click OK.

  5. Step 5

    Click on the Graph tool.

  6. Step 6

    Click and drag diagonally in the active window to create a graph that is the size you want to use. A window appears.

  7. Step 7

    Enter or import the graph data.

  8. Step 8

    Save your file.

Tips & Warnings
  • To select inactive Graph tools, hold down the Alt key (Windows) or the Options key (Mac) while clicking on the active Graph tool.
