How to Customize Adobe Illustrator

You can customize Adobe Illustrator to suit your own needs and preferences. These instructions apply to Adobe Illustrator 8. Procedures for other versions may vary.

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Illustrator
  1. Step 1

    Open Adobe Illustrator.

  2. Step 2

    From the File menu, click on Preferences. A pop-up window appears.

  3. Step 3

    Choose your General Preferences. Click the Next button.

  4. Step 4

    Continue selecting preferences for each option, clicking on the Next button after each new window.

  5. Step 5

    Click OK when finished.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can move backward through the menus by clicking Previous instead of Next.
  • The disk allocated for your scratch disk should be the fastest fixed disk you have available, and this disk should not be too fragmented. Illustrator uses the scratch disk to store images temporarily when it runs out of RAM memory.
