Play Straights in Pool

Straight pool is what they played in "The Hustler" and is sometimes difficult for beginners. It is also known as 14:1, Continuous Pool, Call Shot and Straights.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Billiard Lighting
  • Bridges For Pool
  • Cue Stick Chalk
  • Pool Balls
  • Pool Cue Carrying Cases
  • Pool Cues
  • Pool Table Covers
  • Pool Table Horsehair Brushes
  • Pool Tables
  • Pool Triangles
  • PlayStation Pool Hustler
  1. Step 1

Rack all the balls. Color and order do not matter in this game.

  2. Step 2

Break. You must call the ball and pocket on the break.

  3. Step 3

Call the ball and intended pocket on each shot.

  4. Step 4

Score a point for each shot you make.

  5. Step 5

Continue shooting when you make a shot.

  6. Step 6

Alternate turns, switching each time you fail to make your intended shot.

  7. Step 7

Re-rack when fourteen balls have been sunk and only one remains on the table. Leave the final ball where it is and a blank spot at the tip of the triangle.

  8. Step 8

Win by reaching a score of 150.

Tips & Warnings
  • Lose a point when you scratch. If you scratch 3 times in a row, lose 15 points.
  • It is generally best to let your opponent break since you must call the ball and the pocket to count the shot.
  • Score a point for each ball you sink in addition to your called shot.
  • Less experienced players should play to 50 or 100.
  • Don't forget to call your shot on the break even though it's unlikely you'll make it. You have nothing to lose.

on 3/2/2006 Another strategy as seen in "The Hustler" is to make a soft break in order to leave no easy shot for your opponent.
