Instructions

    • 1

Check the surface of the table. It should be clean and free of bumps, tears and scratches. The surface should be taut and smooth everywhere.

    • 2

Bump the table. It shouldn't shake or move at all. If it does, try another table.

    • 3

Size up the table visually. Heavier is better.

    • 4

Note the walls around the table. Sometimes room dimensions put restrictions on certain angles.

    • 5

Check the pockets of the table. Wider pockets are more fun. Place two balls in the narrow space of the pocket. If both fit easily, the pockets are a good size.

    • 6

Hit some balls on the table. Each table has its own personality. Choose one you like.

    • 7

Note the lighting on the table. More light is better.

Make sure the walls of the table are in good shape. Take a ball and roll it across the table. It should rebound with the same speed or force that it is hit with, if it stops the ball or reduces it's speed significantly; the walls will need replacing.

The cloth condition on a pool table is VERY important when buying a pool table. First, put your hand flat on the playing surface. Don't push down too hard but press down lightly and pass your hand across it. If the cloth moves with your hand or makes waves or ripples, don't buy it! That means the cloth needs to be changed. This pool table might be for sale for only 500 dollars, but cloth starts at 300 and only goes up.
