"The guy who can take a punch might be thought of as tough or brave by some people, but I train my boxers to avoid punches and protect themselves so they can continue to fight." -Joe Guson, pro boxing trainer

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Avoid taking punches, if possible, by out-maneuvering your opponent.

  2. Step 2

Deflect blows with your fists and forearms.

  3. Step 3

Protect your ribs and chest with your upper arms.

  4. Step 4

Work your legs so they are strong and provide a solid, balanced platform underneath you.

  5. Step 5

Bulk up with weights so you can take the pounding.

  6. Step 6

Do lots of abdominal work so you don't break down from body blows.

Tips & Warnings
  • "I've choreographed boxing for TV commercials and movies. Actors who fake taking punches might look like valiant warriors, but let me assure you there is nothing glamorous about getting pummeled. Just be quick and smart and you'll stay on your feet." -Joe Guson

on 11/22/2005 Lots of running will get your torso stronger, and also expand your lungs: making it easier to breath withoutgetting the wind knocked out of you. Lots of crunches are good for the upper abs, while leg raises will work da lower abs.
