"A solid boxing fist requires hand, wrist and forearm strength, along with a good tape job."
--Joe Guson, pro boxing trainer

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Do hand squeezes, forearm curls and forearm extensions to build hand and wrist strength.

  2. Step 2

Pre-tape well and work in it to make sure it's comfortable.

  3. Step 3

Apply the outer tape thoroughly to prevent injury.

  4. Step 4

Test punch without a glove first to see if you can make a solid fist.

  5. Step 5

Wear a glove that fits snugly.

  6. Step 6

Close your fist tightly with your thumb positioned on the outside, and knock out your opponent.

Tips & Warnings
  • Joe Guson suggests trying two different approaches to see which you like: 1) Keep your fist loose until you throw your punch, and close it tight just before impact, or 2) Clench your fist tight the whole fight. Different boxers like different methods.

on 11/22/2005 Get a brick and tap all of your knuckles on the brick so you can strengthen all four of your knuckles. This will help you build up to a punch.

on 11/22/2005 Always strike your target with you fore and middle finger top knuckles. This prevents you from breaking your ring and pinkie finger knuckles, which are the weakest of the knuckles.
