How to Find a Bartender for a Party

• Red or white wine
• Beer
• Cocktail napkins

1. Look in the yellow pages. It's a great resource for food and beverage services.
2. Ask your friends and relatives for recommendations. Think about who had a party with a bartender recently. Did they like her? What advice do they have?
3. Consult with your favorite local bartender. Request her to work your party or make a recommendation.
4. Call bartending schools for advice and referrals.
5. Ask your catering company if it offers bartending services. If it doesn't, find out if it has any recommendations.
6. Talk to the bartender on the phone or meet her in person if you can. Make sure you find someone who's friendly.
7. Determine what and how much alcohol you want to serve. This will determine the skill level the bartender should have and the amount of money you'll spend.
8. Make a list of questions, your budget and the type of alcohol you want to serve and share this information with the bartender. Agree on payment before the bartender arrives.
9. Let the bartender know what expectations you have before the party starts.
10. Remember to give the bartender a tip, along with her fee, at the end of the party.

Tips & Warnings

• Consider hiring a neighborhood college student or relative over the age of 21 if you're planning to serve only beer and wine. Most students or people over that age have had some experience pouring beer and wine. They may drink a couple, but fun will surely be had by all.
