Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Decide how much time you'd like to dedicate to extracurricular activities.

  2. Step 2

Peruse your school's official Web site and look for links to student organizations.

  3. Step 3

Visit residence halls, dining commons, plazas and other places on campus where students tend to gather. Student groups often post flyers about meetings, upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.

  4. Step 4

Remember that many schools allow student groups to set up information tables on campus. Look for these tables and gather materials. Flyers and pamphlets often provide helpful information.

  5. Step 5

Ask friends who have similar interests about groups that they have joined.

  6. Step 6

Attend a few meetings and events held by groups that interest you. Talk to other members and try to learn as much as you can about a particular group before getting heavily involved. Ask about membership dues or other requirements.

  7. Step 7

Decide which groups you'd like to join. Introduce yourself to the leaders of each group and ask what you can do to get more involved.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're interested in a group that doesn't hold many meetings or events, contact a coordinator via e-mail or telephone.
  • Explore a wide variety of groups to ensure that you pick the right ones.
