How to Buy a Gift From Your Baby to Mom

Yes, of course, everyone knows it's from you, but there's pleasure in the pretending. Plus, as your child grows, buying gifts in his name will help familiarize him with the fun of giving.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Avoid being late with this one. You'll lose all the thrill if you bring home the gift-wrapped bath oil three days late.

  2. Step 2

Include a card with words authored by your baby. Say, "Thanks, Mom, for all the late-night feedings," or, "Thanks for all the hugs and cuddles."

  3. Step 3

Add a footprint or a handprint at the bottom of the card.

  4. Step 4

Consider a typewritten note. Nonsense or not, even a 3-month-old can bang on the keyboard.

  5. Step 5

Think baby-sized gift. Even though you're doing the shopping, you want to keep up the appearance that it could possibly be from your pint-sized little one.

  6. Step 6

Try to think like an infant: Mom would like balloons, right? Or something bright or shiny or yummy?

  7. Step 7

Include your baby in the presentation. Maybe Mom finds the gift in the crib? Or in the baby's lap in his car seat?

  8. Step 8

Use your imagination and let your inner baby pave the way to gift-giving fun.

on 5/6/2008 These are such nice prompts for sparking creativity. Especially love the idea of getting the baby going on the typewriter.

on 11/22/2005 When giving a card, have the child color a picture in the card. Even if recognizable pictures are beyond their abilities, the thought is oh, so sweet. Also, try to write like a child when you sign the card (i.e., backward "e" or "s" and messy).
