Step 1
Determine the particular restaurants that interest you. Consider the pace and mood of the place.
-
Step 2
Ask friends for recommendations. Ask mom, too, but realize that a surprise can also be nice.
-
Step 3
Call ahead and investigate whether the restaurant has a fixed-price menu, buffet or a la carte service for the day. Inquire about the menu in particular. What are their specials for Mother's Day?
-
Step 4
Share the menu selections with mom (with enthusiasm) and ask whether they appeal to her.
-
Step 5
Determine how much money you'd like to spend and who will be joining you.
-
Step 6
Make a reservation if the restaurant accepts them for brunch; you might also consider ordering ahead of time to make everything as easy and pleasant as possible. (And then mom won't know how much you're paying.)
-
Step 7
Drive or otherwise accompany mom to the restaurant. If you live in an urban area and mom is used to walking, walk with her and enjoy the stroll.
-
Step 8
Stand in line for mom and the rest of your guests, if you're going to a restaurant that doesn't take reservations. Send mom around the block on a nice stroll or call her on a cell phone when the table is ready. Or bring the paper along and share news items and stories with her.
-
Step 9
Give mom the royal treatment. Suggest mimosas. Take your time eating; savor every bite. Relax and enjoy the moment with her. Smile.
-
Step 10
Make a toast, even if it's just the two of you. Thank mom for her generous and nurturing love and ask fellow guests to share loving and mom-related stories and fond memories.
-
Step 11
Take photos and fill an album with the resulting images. Give this album to mom.
-
Step 12
Pay the check. Always treat mom to the finer things in life.
