Tuna salad - the great American staple of lunch boxes and tuna fish sandwiches nationwide. It's easy to make and fondly remembered. Use this recipe to make a splendid tuna salad to have as a side dish or a sandwich spread.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 tsp. capers (optional)
  • 1 tbsp. diced celery
  • 1 to 2 tbsp. mayonnaise
  • pickle brine to moisturize
  • 1 tbsp. chopped pickles or pickle relish
  • 1 (6-oz.) can water-packed tuna
  • black pepper to taste
  • Groceries
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Wooden Spoons
  • Mixing bowls
  1. Step 1

    Drain the tuna as well as you can and place it in a mixing bowl.

  2. Step 2

    Add the mayonnaise and stir it into the tuna.

  3. Step 3

    Add the chopped pickles or pickle relish, diced celery, and optional capers.

  4. Step 4

    Season with a pinch or so of black pepper.

  5. Step 5

    Stir everything together. Moisturize the mixture as desired with brine from the pickle jar or extra mayonnaise.

  6. Step 6

    If making sandwiches, use two layers of leaf lettuce to keep the tuna salad from making the bread soggy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Purchase only tuna packed in water for tuna salad.
  • Everyone's individual tuna salad recipe is different. Other common ingredients are a little mustard or ketchup, chopped hard-boiled egg, chopped olives and chopped pimientos.
  • Keep this recipe refrigerated at all times.

on 6/30/2006 If you don't like mayonnaise or can't eat it because of an egg allergy or such, use ranch dressing instead. Not a bad idea even if you can eat mayonnaise, if you just want something a little different.
