How to Plan Your Honeymoon in Cabo

Bask in the year-round sun on the beaches of Los Cabos ("The Capes"). Baja California, Mexico, consists of two major cities, the party hub of Cabo San Lucas and the laid-back San Jose del Cabo. Take your pick, or enjoy them both.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Fly to Cabo San Lucas through one of the major Mexican carriers such as Aero California or Mexicana, or via Alaskan Airlines if you're going through a west coast city.
Step2
Visit Cabo if you're hoping to get a good mix of beach time, pool time and a bar scene full of tequila, dancing and live music.
Step3
Beware of the heat in summer, as it can get very hot, but the best deals are during the months of June through September. Fall and spring are perfect, with days in the 80s and 90s and nights in the mid to low 70s.
Step4
Bring an English/Spanish dictionary, but know that most people in the touristy spots speak decent English.
Step5
Dine at restaurants that serve fresh seafood. Cheaper taco stands are a great way to keep you going throughout the course of your day.
Step6
Party at the popular sailor bar The Giggling Marlin, the dance-crazed El Squid Roe, or the live music mecca Cabo Wabo, reportedly owned by Sammy Hagar of Van Halen fame.
Step7
Stop by the harbor to charter a sport-fishing boat for the day and chase after blue marlin, yellow tail and dorado, hop on a parasail boat, or rent a personal water craft.
Step8
Snorkel around coral and rock outcroppings full of tropical fish.
Step9
Stay in the cheap ($25 to $40 a night) Dos Mares Hotel (114/3-03-30) for accommodations that include kitchen and pool, or the Solmar Suites (800.344.3349) for rooms costing $100 to $150 a night and an ocean view.
Step10
Golf at the world-class La Palmilla or Cabo Real courses, or jump on over to the municipal course in San Jose del Cabo to save a few bucks.
Step11
Romance your honey at the luxurious and exclusive Twin Dolphin, which is far away from it all and worth the extra dough.

Tips & Warnings

  • Negotiate cab fares before you get in the cab. Haggling is accepted and expected.
  • Drink bottled water, or make sure your hotel has a purifier.
  • Wear lots of sunblock and protect your eyes and head from the sun and heat.
  • Beware of jellyfish in the water, which can give you a nasty sting. If you have allergies to bee stings and the like, bring along a shot kit to protect against anaphylactic shock.
  • As of January, 2007, passports are required for US citizens traveling between the US and Mexico by air. In January, 2008, the requirement will extend to include those traveling by land or sea.
