Make a Family Collage for Mother's Day

Mom will be thrilled when she receives this specially arranged collection of family mementos and photographs.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Purchase a large picture frame or art frame.

  2. Step 2

Cut a piece of cardboard to fit inside. If you will be using photographs, be sure to use an acid-free heavy paper instead of regular cardboard.

  3. Step 3

Paint or attach fabric to the cardboard and use this as your background. Again, if you will be using photographs, use only acid-free materials.

  4. Step 4

Sort through your family photographs and select several that you feel are special.

  5. Step 5

Find some mementos of family trips, weddings, parties or special times. These might include a postcard, a lace glove, place cards, shells, a baby ID bracelet, a handwritten note, a book cover, a lock of hair or any other item that will have meaning for your mother.

  6. Step 6

Arrange the items on the background in an artful way so that they are pleasing to the eye.

  7. Step 7

Lift the items up one by one and affix glue to the back of the item and then set it in place.

  8. Step 8

    Allow the collage to dry.

  9. Step 9

Insert the collage into the frame and wrap it in some pretty paper.

  10. Step 10

Present it to mom on Mother's Day and enjoy her reaction.

Tips & Warnings
  • If there are several members in your family, ask each to contribute something to the collage.
  • It's best not to take photos and mementos from your mother's or family's scrapbooks. Use ones that are your own or that you know aren't being saved for something else.

on 4/30/2009 Special art picture is a unique gift! I would highly recommend you visit http://www.photoartomation.comThey convert ordinary photos into art and print them on canvas. I sent them my favorite picture of my mom. They made several free preview samples of altered photos for my consideration. All of them were perfect. I chose one of them I liked the most and order a canvas stretched print. That was awesome! My mother was very, very touched and pleased
