How to Maximize Space on Your Ski/Snowboard Rack

You've got a car full of buddies and you're on the way to the resort, but somebody else needs a ride. It's a good thing you packed the rack well.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cross-country Skis
  • Downhill Skis
  • Snowboards
  • Telemark Skis

Step1
Make sure the rack is securely attached to the roof. There's no point in maximizing the space on your rack if it flies off en route.
Step2
Double up your skis and/or snowboards.
Step3
Place one ski or snowboard upside down on the rack. Put the next ski or snowboard on top of the upside-down ski or snowboard. If there's an odd number of snowboards, place a snowboard upside down and place two skis on top of it.
Step4
Push the skis and/or snowboards against each other on the rack.
Step5
Strap down telemark bindings under an arm of the rack so the bindings don't bang the roof of your vehicle.
Step6
Leave your poles inside the vehicle. They take up valuable space on the rack and they fit nicely inside.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place the skis and/or snowboards on the rack gently. You'll have enough opportunities to scratch your bases on rocks and trees without dinging them on the roof.
