Join the fun that alpine skiers and snowboarders have while launching jumps. Here's how to jump on telemark skis.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ski Clothing
  • Telemark Ski Equipment
  1. Step 1

Find a small jump to practice on. Good jumps can either drop you off or shoot you skyward - take your pick.

  2. Step 2

Approach the jump in the telemark stance with one foot further in front than the other. The rear leg will be in the dropped-knee position.

  3. Step 3

Spring up when you take off by extending your knees, ankles and feet upward in a jumping motion.

  4. Step 4

Keep your hands in front of your body, as though you were holding a cafeteria tray. This will open up your body to maintain a stable flight through the air.

  5. Step 5

Switch foot placement in the air by rotating your lead and rear feet. This gives you something to do in the air to remain balanced, and it also looks cool.

  6. Step 6

Land the jump in the telemark stance, with the opposite knee dropped from when you took off.

Tips & Warnings
  • Land tall with both legs only slightly bent, then compress your legs down to absorb the impact.
  • Telemark skiing is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
