How to Perform Telemark Wedge Christie Turns

If you are an alpine skier just learning to telemark, the telemark wedge christie is a good turning drill.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ski Clothing
  • Telemark Ski Equipment
  1. Step 1

    Find a wide-open, easy slope to practice making telemark wedge christie turns.

  2. Step 2

    Turn to the right in a wedge, just as you would on alpine skis. Keep the fronts of your skis close together while the heels are spread apart.

  3. Step 3

    Drop your right knee down towards your ski halfway through the turn. You will now be in the telemark stance, with one leg in front of the other.

  4. Step 4

    Place half your weight on each ski.

  5. Step 5

    Finish your turn by steering both feet to the right.

  6. Step 6

    Extend both legs up so that you are once again in an alpine stance, with both heels on your skis.

  7. Step 7

    Turn to the left in a wedge turn and then drop the left knee halfway through the turn.

  8. Step 8

    Continue these turns down the slope.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep practicing the telemark wedge christie turn while trying to spend more time in the telemark stance and less time in the wedge stance as you gain confidence.
  • Telemark skiing is a physically demanding sport that could result in serious injury. We recommend that you seek proper training and equipment before attempting this activity.
