How to Make Central European Charoset

Charoset is a traditional food used in the Passover seder. Use this recipe - a mixture of apples, walnuts and cinnamon - to make the charoset most Americans are familiar with. This recipe is kosher for Passover and serves 8.

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/4 c. kosher wines
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 1 tsp. lemon juices
  • 2 tbsp. orange juice
  • 1 c. walnuts

  • 1/4 c. raisins
  • 1/4 c. kosher wines
  • 1 c. walnuts
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 1 tsp. lemon juices
  • 2 tbsp. orange juice
  1. Step 1

    Whisk together the wine, orange juice, honey and cinnamon in a small bowl. Set aside.

  2. Step 2

    Use a large knife to roughly chop the walnuts.

  3. Step 3

    Place the walnuts in a medium-sized bowl. Add the raisins.

  4. Step 4

    Chop the apple into bite-sized pieces. Sprinkle the lemon juice over the apple pieces. Add the apple to the nut and raisin mixture and toss to evenly distribute.

  5. Step 5

    Stir the wine mixture and pour it over the nuts, raisins and apples. Toss to coat.

  6. Step 6

    Cover with plastic wrap or a tight-fitting lid. Place in the refrigerator and allow the flavors to blend for at least an hour.

  7. Step 7

    Serve chilled or at room temperature.
