How to Print and File Your Return in TurboTax

TurboTax for tax year 1999 will print all the forms it determined that you need (if you used EasyStep) or that you chose to use (if you used Forms Method). You can then mail them in. You can also file your federal income taxes electronically from within the program. To file state taxes electronically, you need to purchase an extension to the program (not available for all states).

Manual Filing

1. Save your return.

2. From EasyStep, if you plan to file manually, click Print My Return when EasyStep brings you to the Filing and Printing Options screen.

3. From Forms Method, select Print from the File menu. Click to place a bullet to the left of Tax Return for Filing. Note the other options in the printing window, then click Print.

Electronic Filing

4. Follow the instructions for purchasing, preparing and filing the version of TurboTax for your state if you plan to file both returns electronically.

5. Click File Electronically from the Filing and Printing Options screen in EasyStep.

6. Select File Electronically from Electronic Filing under the File menu in Forms Method.

7. Follow the on-screen instructions for filing electronically.

8. Enter your credit card number to pay Intuit the $9.95 filing fee.

9. When requested by the program, enter your e-file customer number if you received one on a postcard from the IRS.

10. Print a copy of your return for your files.

11. Open TurboTax in one to three days to find out if your return was accepted by the IRS.
