How to Get Started With TurboTax

TurboTax for tax year 1999 has two modes: EasyStep and Forms Method. EasyStep generates everything you need through a question-and-answer process. Forms Method lets you complete tax forms traditionally, but on your computer (TurboTax does the math).

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Install TurboTax according to the instructions on the QuickStart card included with your program.

  2. Step 2

    Register the program if you wish.

  3. Step 3

    Open the Start menu and select Programs, then TurboTax for Windows 1999.

  4. Step 4

    Click 1999 TurboTax for Windows to open the program.

  5. Step 5

    Choose between EasyStep Interview and Forms Method.

  6. Step 6

    Use Forms Method in TurboTax (tax year 1999) to prepare your return if you know exactly which forms you need and you don't need any help completing them. TurboTax will do the math for you.

  7. Step 7

    Use EasyStep Interview to ensure that you are filing the correct forms and preparing them properly.

  8. Step 8

  9. Step 9

    If you use a financial program such as Quicken on your computer, or if you used tax preparation software last year, read the Related eHow "How to Transfer and Import Data to Your Return in TurboTax" before completing the Federal Information Worksheet.

  10. Step 10

Tips & Warnings
  • Forms Method is faster if you use Form 1040A or Form 1040EZ and plan to file electronically.
