Don't hide these brightly colored eggs. Put them in a basket and they'll make a beautiful centerpiece for your Easter table.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Hollow out an egg (see "How to Hollow Out an Egg" for directions).

  2. Step 2

Pour white glue into a small plastic container.

  3. Step 3

Thin the glue slightly with water to a consistency that spreads easily with a paintbrush.

  4. Step 4

Spread a layer of glue about the size of a quarter over one end of the eggshell using a paintbrush.

  5. Step 5

Carefully insert the end of a piece of colored yarn into the hole in the same end of the eggshell.

  6. Step 6

Begin wrapping the yarn in a tight spiral at the top of the eggshell, pressing it into the glue.

  7. Step 7

Continue wrapping the yarn so that no eggshell shows between the rows of yarn.

  8. Step 8

Brush on more glue as your wrapping progresses around the eggshell.

  9. Step 9

Continue brushing on glue and wrapping until the eggshell is completely covered with yarn.

  10. Step 10

Add extra glue to the end of the eggshell where you finish wrapping.

  11. Step 11

Set the egg in an egg carton while the glue dries completely.

  12. Step 12

Trim the yarn close to the eggshell.

Tips & Warnings
  • Fuzzy yarn does not work well for this project. Cotton yarn or embroidery thread works best.
  • Use variegated yarn to get color changes without changing yarn.
  • Change yarn colors to make stripes by cutting the yarn you're working with. Glue the end down to the eggshell, then wrap the new color over the end of the last piece of yarn, covering it.
  • Your fingers will get sticky, making it difficult to continue the wrapping. When this happens, wash the glue off your hands and take a short break to allow the glue on the egg to dry. Then continue with the wrapping.
  • Use tacky craft glue to add sequins to your egg after the white glue is completely dry.
