Hit a Home Run
Hit a Home Run

The difference between a hit and a home run can be found in the speed and strength behind the swing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hold the bat, step inside the batter's box and assume a comfortable stance (see 'eHow to Hit a Baseball').

  2. Step 2

Watch the ball as it leaves the pitcher's hand.

  3. Step 3

Stay inward on the ball. In other words, keep your body weight leaning in toward the plate.

  4. Step 4

Rotate your body instead of your head when you swing. As you swing, pivot on your back foot, transferring your weight steadily from back foot to front, and follow through with the bat. It should end up in the middle of your back. Remember that it's the speed of your swing and the muscle behind it that will send the ball over the fence.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get into a weight-training program to build strength.
  • Increase strength by hitting a miniature basketball off a tee.
  • Practice without a ball to develop your speed and the finer points of your technique. Try rapid swings with the bat to build up speed.

on 8/18/2009 This advice is inaccurate. First of all, hitting a homerun requires bat speed and the correct swing, not just strength, after all, a homerun is nothing more than a hard line drive that the hitter got under a fraction of an inch. This is done by getting your bat on the plain of the pitch and hitting the bottom half of the ball. Doing this supplys the necessary backspin needed to keep the ball in the air long enough to leave the yard. The best thing to do is to try and hit the ball hard and the homeruns will happen.

on 8/4/2009 There are alot of good med's out there to "bulk up" that should help you attain the power to hit homeruns. Some people prefer female fertility drugs, but I suggest something like Turkish primo which is realatively inexpensive.

on 9/13/2006 If you are not a big powerful person, or are using a lighter bat, bat speed does help, just look at Barry Bonds. Say what you want about him, but he has the fastest bat speed, chokes up on the bat, and probably uses the lightest bat allowed in the MLB.

on 8/8/2006 When you get up to bat don't think, "OK I'm gonna hit a home run" because chances are that you will over think it and try too hard and it won't work. Carefully review all the steps before you get up to bat and when you get up there just focus on hitting the ball!
