How to Use the Check Target Browser Feature in Dreamweaver

Even if you design a site for Internet Explorer 5.0, you still want Netscape Navigator 4.0 users to be able to access your site. The Check Target Browser feature in Dreamweaver 3 checks your page for compatibility with several browsers and reports a list of possible problems.

Instructions

    • 1

Start the Dreamweaver program and open the page you want to check. If you make any changes to the Web page, save it before checking.

    • 2

Open the File menu and select Check Target Browsers.

    • 3

Choose a primary browser, then select the additional browsers to check the page against. The primary browser is the browser you are designing for (Internet Explorer 5.0, for example), while the other browsers will be checked for compatibility.

    • 4

Click on the Do Check button. Your primary browser will launch and a report will be generated.

    • 5

Save the report by clicking on the File menu in the browser and choosing Save. Find the folder your Web page is located on and name the report. Click OK.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to save or print the report after viewing it if you want to use it. Otherwise, it will be lost and you'll have to regenerate it.
