How to Add a Jump Menu With Dreamweaver

By eHow Internet Editor

Rate: (5 Ratings)

A jump menu is a pop-up list of options for the user to select; clicking on an option takes the viewer to a Web page for that option. Jump menus can eliminate rows and rows of links on a page. Dreamweaver 3.0 makes using them fast and easy.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Start Dreamweaver and open the page the jump menu will be added to.
Step2
Open the Insert menu and select Form Object, then Jump Menu.
Step3
Type the text for the first option in the Text box. The first option appears by default in the jump box, so it's best to make this a nonselective description, such as "Pick an Area to Go To."
Step4
Click on the Select First Item After URL Change box.
Step5
Click on the plus sign at the top of the box to add another jump menu item. Type the text for this option in the text box.
Step6
Locate the When Selected, Go to URL box and type the name of the page the user will be taken to when this option is selected. Click on the Browse button to select a page from your hard disk.
Step7
Click on the plus sign to add another jump menu item.
Step8
When you're finished adding jump options, click OK and save the file.
Step9
Preview the page by choosing Preview in Browser from the File menu.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the up and down pointing arrows to rearrange the order of options in the jump menu. Remember to always leave the first option at the top of the list.
  • If you are using frames, make sure each frame is named; choose the frame from the Open URLs In menu.
  • Jump menus use form capabilities, so browsers that do not support forms will not be able to see a jump menu. Be sure to offer an alternate link for these users.
