How to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

Instead of the usual candy, children can gather money for a worthy cause this Halloween. It is a nice way to remind them that they can make a difference in the lives of children who are less fortunate than they are.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Trick Or Treat Bags
  • Internet Access
  • Computers
  • Kids' Costumes

Step1
Access the U.S. Fund for UNICEF Web site for information to "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF."
Step2
Follow the instructions in the materials to obtain the "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" collection boxes for trick-or-treating.
Step3
Distribute the carton boxes to your children.
Step4
Instruct each trick-or-treater to say, "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF!," as he or she solicits donations at each door.
Step5
Collect the carton boxes from each child immediately after Halloween.
Step6
Count the total amount of money collected and write a check for the amount.
Step7
Make the check out to the U.S. Committee Fund for UNICEF and mail it to "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF," U.S. Committee Fund for UNICEF, P.O. Box 98006, Washington, D.C., 20090-8006.
Step8
Make your contribution using a credit card by calling (800) 252-KIDS.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are four ways to obtain the collection cartons - you may order online, call, go to a participating neighborhood store or download and print out a kit.
  • You may want to let children accept candy as well as donations while they are trick-or-treating.
