How to Preview Sounds in a Director Movie

There are three easy methods of previewing sounds in Macromedia Director. Director for Windows uses WAV files; Director for the Macintosh uses AIFF files. These instructions apply to Macromedia Director 5.0. Procedures for other versions may vary.

Things You'll Need:

  • Macromedia Director

    From the Cast

  1. Step 1

    Import a sound file into the Cast. Do this by choosing Import from the File menu. The sound file appears as a Cast Member in the first available space in the Cast window.

  2. Step 2

    Double-click on the small microphone icon that appears in the lower right-hand side of the sound's Cast window. A Sound Cast Member Properties window appears.

  3. Step 3

    Click Play.

  4. From the Score

  5. Step 1

    Drag your Sound Cast Member to a Sound Channel in the Score. It appears as a sprite.

  6. Step 2

    Double-click or right-click the sprite, then click on Sound. Or click on the sprite to select it, then go to the Modify menu and choose Sound under the Frame submenu. The Sound Cast Properties window appears.

  7. Step 3

    Click Play.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Sound Channels are the channels in the Score that are represented by a microphone icon.
