How to Create an Image File in Director's Paint Window

You can create an image or picture in Macromedia Director by using the Paint window. The image file will be a bitmapped image. These instructions apply to Macromedia Director 5.0. Procedures for other versions may vary.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Open or create a Director movie.

  2. Step 2

    Choose Paint from the Window menu.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the Add button (the tiny "+" sign that appears in the upper left-hand corner of the Paint window). A new Cast Member is created.

  4. Step 4

    Use the Paint window's tools to make your picture.

  5. Step 5

    Close the Paint window when finished by clicking on the small "X" in the top right-hand side of the window. Your image file will appear in the first available space in the Cast window.

Tips & Warnings
  • Create special effects by using the menu box on the bottom left side of the Paint window. You can experiment with different inks (i.e., reverse, ghost, smudge, difference, smear, gradient and so on).
  • Image files are bitmapped images. They will add to the byte size of your movie.
